What's Happening this Week?

The countdown has officially begun.  10 and a half days of school.  We will still be busy learners in these last few days!!  We will finish our Ocean Unit this week.  The kindergarten hall is full of amazing animals.  We will also review long and short vowel sounds.  In math, we will review numbers 1-100.  We will be attending mass tomorrow in honor of Miss Gallion's retirement.  Of course there will be a lot more going on as well.  The kindergarteners love when I say we just did First grade work-and we are!

Just a couple reminders:  Monday June 3rd is kindergarten field day and the picnic with our 7th grade buddies.

Have a great week!

We are under the sea!

We have had more fun learning about the ocean and the animals that live in it.  So far we have learned about crabs, jellyfish, sea horses and will learn many more next week.

Here are some photos of the ocean animals taking over the kindergarten hallway.

We also read "Rainbow Fish" and completed an adjective activity about our fish.  We had some long, colorful, big, fat and crazy fish!

Newport Aquarium

We had a wonderful time last week at the Newport Aquarium!  We saw so many interesting animals that we well be learning about or have learned about.  We especially had fun in the jellyfish exhibit pretending to be just like jellyfish.

Of course, this will be another fun filled week at school.  On Thursday, we are inviting the incoming kindergarteners to come celebrate mass with us. Some of our kindergarteners are even reading the petitions.  On Thursday, we will also be enjoying the dress rehearsal for the Spring Concert.  In between all this we will be busy learners, getting ready for 1st grade.  Only 3 1/2 weeks left!

Happy Birthday baby chicks

It was so exciting!  We were fortunate enough to see some baby chicks hatch out of their eggs.  You could hear them chirping even before they came out.  Thanks to Mrs. Romeo for such  a wonderful learning opportunity.  Here are some photos to show what they looked like when they first were coming out their shells and what they looked like the next morning. What a difference.

What's Happening This Week?

First off, I wanted to say how great it was to see Emily and the Richmonds on the Flying Pig Course yesterday.  It may only have been a few seconds, but great to see them!

Here is the medal and bib.  I had a PR for a marathon race walking at 5:13:00. I was passing alot of runners the last few miles.  I think I may get a shirt that says:  If you can read this you just got passed by a walker :) Also congrats to Mr. Beerman, Zack's dad who completed to 4-way.  The 5 and 10K on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday!  That is amazing!!!!!

Just a reminder that we will be going to the Newport Aquarium on Wednesday so everyone will need to pack a lunch.

In Language Arts, we will start our final theme this week: All about the Ocean.  We will review all the vowels and their sounds.  We will continue to progress our writing in Writer's Workshop and build our reading strategies and skills.  In math, we will be reviewing addition and subtraction.  Out thematic unit will also be revolving around the Ocean.  As always we will be busy learners!

Leo Lionni

I hope you all had a wonderful 2 days off.  We had a great conference!  What wonderful weather.  This week we have been reading many books by the author Leo Lionni.  The kidnergarteners have really enjoyed them!  We read and discussed the book Frederick and talked about ways he was a good friend. Here are some of the children's completed projects we did.  We illustrated Frederick with construction paper and wrote a sentence about him.

Just a reminder that we are going to the Aquarium on Wednesday next week.  Please turn in the permission forms and money.  Thanks!!!!!
