Writing our names
We had a very busy week and have learned so much already. As I said earlier, I am sure the children are extremely tired. We will get used to being at school all day soon, it is a big adjustment.
We are learning the routines for our many learning opportunities. We have learned the color words red, blue, yellow, green and orange. We also learned the popcorn word I.
We have also worked very hard on writing our names the "kindergarten" way. Using only an uppercase letter for the first letter in our names and all the rest are lowercase. We all still need more help and practice with this! I found this great website where you can type in your child's name and a great practice page is generated. Handwriting is very important!

In Language Arts we are starting Read to Self and Writer's Workshop. We will be identify the letters of the alphabet at a very fast pace this year. This week we will be learning letter Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg and Hh. We will be learning the high frequency word I also. We will be working very hard on reading the color words red, blue, yellow, green and orange. In Math, we will be discoverying numbers 1-4. In Religion, we will be discussing that God created the world in everything in it. Our thematic unit will be on names and how to write them the kindergarten way and how to read each others names.
As you can see we are very busy in kindergarten. Here are some photos of the class today.

Day 1 and 2
It's been a great couple of days. We toured the school, talked about our hopes for the year, talked about what makes and good teacher and student and so much more. We sang some songs and read many great books.
While touring the school we were looking for Pete the Cat, but never quite found him. Maybe next year, or even on Monday we will find him. Here is a fun short video that goes with the story Pete the Cat, Walking in my School Shoes.

Don't forgot to get lots of rest this weekend! Picture day is Tuesday and we are of uniform for picture day. Have a wonderful weekend.
We will start out Monday getting busy learning.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
Welcome everyone! Kindergarten is such an exciting time and you will be amazed at the growth and progress you see in your children throughout the year. Our year will be filled with fun, friendships, learning and laughter. We work hard and play hard every day.
On of the most important things you can do this year to help your child be as successful as possible is to read to and with your student every day. Spend time talking with your children about what they learned and did during the day. Language is so important in literacy development! Games are also very fun and important learning opportunities as well. Above all else model for them how important it is to learn and read.
You never know what a kindergartener will say or do in the course of the day, but here is an example. It is based on a book I have and read on the first day if school called, Kindergarten Rocks!
